Vision talisman

From Ashenzari's Archive
(Redirected from Vision Form)
Trunk-only: This article pertains to a feature of Crawl which is being tested. It will likely change before the next release, and may even be removed entirely.
A small charm bearing the likeness of an eye. It gives the wearer supernatural sight, allowing them to perceive the clouds of magical residue left behind whenever beings cast spells. Touching those clouds allows them to convert that leftover magic into unnerring projectiles against nearby foes.

This third eye even allows one to see from further distances than would otherwise be possible, but be warned - creatures perceived this way will perceive you back.

A vision talisman is a talisman that changes you into a vision form.

Useful Info

When Put on, a vision talisman turns you into a Vision Form, which lasts until you end the form. Entering a form takes 4 turns and exiting it takes 5.

Vision Form has the following effects:

Offensive traits

  • Glimmer clouds. When the player or a nearby monster casts a spell, it creates glimmer cloud () on a tile near the player. Stepping on this cloud, while any enemy is visible, consumes it and fires a small magical projectile towards a random enemy. If no enemy is currently visible, stepping on the cloud moves it to a random nearby tile, the same thing happens if a monster steps on it.

Defensive traits

Restrictions

Vision Form has a minimum Shapeshifting skill of 0, and the maximum skill is 7.

Mystics start with a vision talisman.

Strategy

For the Mystic background, this form provides basic tools for the early game. Because Ice Thorns by itself may not provide enough damage and Sirocco could not be cast frequently, additional damage from glimmer clouds becomes a necessity. However, becase damage from glimmer clouds is relatively small past the early game and due to the form's restriction on wearing rings, one should strive to switch to a Jade talisman or to some other form, when getting closer to a mid-game.
