Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
A modern breakthrough in arcane experimentation, this mobile prison cell weaponises the living fragments of once-escaped ugly things, extending the reach of their tendrils to thrash multiple foes at once from a distance.

Useful Info

Crawling flesh cages are the hideous creations of depraved wizards, made from a collection of fused ugly things before being imprisoned in a motile cage. They possess a unique attack flavour: they can reach from afar, cleave all targets within 2 tiles, and inflict random ugly thing-type damage with each attack (fire, cold, poison, electricity, acid, or antimagic). Additionally, they partially resist all the aforementioned elements and have increased willpower. Crawling flesh cages can be found in the Vaults, often led by arcanists.

Strategy

  • Crawling flesh cages become significantly more dangerous in large groups of enemies, as they can attack over allies and deal many different types of damage. Prioritize killing them if you can do so.
  • Any sort of ally-reliant build will struggle against them. Have a backup source of damage ready in case you encounter them.

Tips & Tricks

  • Crawling flesh cages can be targeted with Lee's Rapid Deconstruction.
  • Crawling flesh cages cannot be zombified.
  • Crawling flesh cages cannot be polymorphed; attempting to do so will change their tile but have no further effects.
  • Watch for nearby ironbound beastmasters, as they can haste crawling flesh cages.
  • They are chaotic and vulnerable to silver.

History

  • Crawling flesh cages were added in 0.34, replacing ugly things in the Vaults.
