Version 0.32: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
A relaxed water cultist with a healthy tan and a soothing voice. He doesn't really care if it is you or he who dies — “both” would probably be the best option.

“Death and death alone gives meaning to life and this meaning is entirely negative.”
-Georges Poulet

Useful Info

Norris the Philosopher is a unique spellcaster. He arrives with a band of skysharks, confusing melee attacks, and a number of perplexing spells.

In addition to his spells, Norris constantly has an aura of shallow water around him, similar to water nymphs. He can also "Travel through water", which means blinking between any 2 tiles of water.

Location

Spells

Tile Name Damage Range Flags
Primal Wave 3d30 6 Priest flag
Antimagic Gaze 0-30 MP LOS Priest flag

Tips & Tricks

  • Like tarantellas, his melee confusion can only be resisted by clarity. Mummies in particular should watch out.
  • Primal Wave knocks you back, so watch out when using stairs.
  • Draining Gaze drains MP quickly, so you'll want a way to kill him that doesn't require MP. Buffs (such as haste and might), throwables (such as javelins and throwing nets), and evocables (both wands and XP evokers) should all be considered.

History

Prior to this version, Norris was known as Norris the Nihilist, and did not have skysharks or a water aura. His spells were Brain Feed, Smiting, Invisibility, Confuse, and Paralyse.
  • In 0.19, Norris bit the dust.
  • In ancient versions of Crawl, Norris' tile showed him carrying a surfboard. This is reintroduced as of 0.31.
