Draconian knight

From Ashenzari's Archive
Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

For a list of all draconians, see list of draconians.

A draconian protected by thick scales, skilful weapon use, and complementary magic.

“Trogdor was a man!
I mean, he was a dragon-man!
Or... maybe he was just a dragon.
...
And the Trogdor comes in the night!”
-The Brothers Chaps, “Trogdor”. 2003.

Useful Info

Draconian knights are similar to deep elf knights, but with more dangerous spells. They are lightly armored fighters who wield heavy weaponry and occasionally shields, supplemented with the ability to cast powerful Conjurations. Knights are typically generated as black draconians, who can fire a Lightning Bolt.

Spells

Tips & Tricks

  • In spite of the flavour text, draconian knights are neither especially competent with their weapons or armoured beyond the usual draconian cloak. Their spells, however, are potent enough to be a concern (though less so than any of the pure draconian casters). The difficulty of this foe depends mainly on its breath weapon (determined by its colour) and its randomly-selected spell set.

History

  • In 0.35, Draconian knights will cast Phase Shift instead of Invisibility
  • Prior to 0.34 these draconians had only 40 Willpower.
  • Prior to 0.28, classed draconians could randomly generate with varying colours.
  • Prior to 0.27, they could cast Ozocubu's Armour, but had a higher base AC to compensate.
  • Prior to 0.14, draconian knights had a wider variety of spell sets, with less focus on Ice Magic and Necromancy. Specifically they could have the sets of hell knights, deep elf conjurers, or necromancers.
