Version 0.30: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
A small globe of magical energy that follows a spellcaster. It cannot operate on its own, yet it will provide fire support, assaulting whatever its conjurer casts at with magical missiles that never miss.

“I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am”
-They Might Be Giants, “Birdhouse in Your Soul”. 1989.

Useful Info

Battlespheres are globes of energy which can be created by the level 5 spell, Iskenderun's Battlesphere, or the unrand sphere of Battle. They don't have any melee attacks, but each time you cast a destructive spell at a monster, they will shoot a barrage of energy at a random target. The power of the beam depends on the spellpower (for the spell) or your skill in Conjurations (for the sphere of Battle).

You can fire through your own battlesphere. However, your battlesphere cannot fire through you.

Being a conjured monster, battlespheres cannot be ordered around via the t command.
