Version 0.28: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
A weapon that chops foes down as steadily and methodically as a forester cuttingwood. The unchanging rhythm of its work has settled on it with the force of natural law, and no amount of force or skill can make it swing faster or slower.

+8 war axe Vorpal brand
Always swings at 10 aut, regardless of any other factors.

Desirability

The woodcutter's axe, as just a +8 vorpal war axe, would already be a respectible weapon for a good portion of the game. Combine that with the fact that it takes no Axes skill at all, and any character will benefit. In addition, you can be sure that regular speed enemies will be unable to hit you twice for every swing you do.

This item is more useful in the early game, where it is more likely to spawn. Once you can comfortably swing a decently enchanted and branded broad axe (or any other weapon of your choice), the woodcutter's axe loses its gleam. Still, its guaranteed 10-aut swing proves to be useful for a long time.

History

  • The woodcutter's axe was added in 0.28.
