| This spell opens a gate to the realm of Pandemonium and draws forth one of its inhabitants to serve the caster for a time (although the demon's servitude is by no means guaranteed). |
Summon Demon is a level 5 Summonings spell which summons a single tier-3 or -4 demon to do your bidding. While this can create some excellent allies such as smoke demons or sun demons, you may also wind up with a near-useless rotting devil. On top of that, the demon may arrive hostile (higher spell power makes this less likely), so having Abjuration ready is advised.
You can get much more reliable service out of such spells as Summon Ice Beast, Summon Elemental, or Shadow Creatures, making them preferable if you have a choice. That being said, you can get access to this spell and Abjuration through a rod of Demonology.
