| Constructs a gleaming metal champion whose prowess rivals that of the greatest living warriors. It is resistant to all forms of magic and wields a perfect replica of any artefact melee weapon the caster chooses.
It creates a damaging shockwave around itself when first deployed and slowly gains charge as it attacks enemies. When it has gained sufficient charge, the spell may be recast to overload the paragon, unleashing a flurry of attacks in a wide area which inflict increased damage, but destroying the paragon in the process. Due to the magical link it maintains with its creator, it will perform an extra attack whenever they do, and will sometimes even parry attacks directed at them, if they are close enough together. |
Platinum Paragon is a level 9 Forgecraft spell that creates a platinum paragon, who deals damage when deployed and melee attacks when you do.
Useful Info
Imprint Weapon ability
| Analyzes the structural composition of an artefact melee weapon in your inventory and imprints it upon your Platinum Paragon spell, allowing it to wield a functional replica of it whenever you create one. |
In order to cast this spell at all, you must first assign it an artefact melee weapon with the Imprint Weapon ability, which takes 6 turns. Any melee artefact, even artefact magical staves, can be used.
Summoning
When casting the spell, you deploy the platinum paragon in a targeted square within a 7x7 region around you, dealing damage to nearby creatures (even allies).
The paragon can fight by itself, though in addition, it performs an instant melee attack whenever you melee attack. Dual-wielding Coglins will only trigger one attack from the paragon.
The paragon builds up charge as it attacks enemies, and when it has attained a sufficient amount, the spell can be recast to perform a powerful finisher - unleashing a weapon attack with a bonus damage multiplier against many nearby enemies, and destroying the paragon in the process.
While standing within 2 tiles of your paragon, you get the Protected status, which provides a 1/3 chance for the paragon to block any attack targeting you.
Damage formula of Paragon's deployment: Impact damage is 4d(10+spellpower/10)
Damage formula of Paragon Overload attack:
Level 1 of the super does +125% of its normal attack damage.
Level 2 does +200% normal attack damage.
Paragon's guard chance it's exactly a 1/3rd chance to nullify melee or ranged attack while next to it. When the guard success, nobody takes damage and SH is irrelevant. It doesn't work on anything else. ( such as dont work on spells )
There is no cap on how many total attacks Paragon can dish out in a single turn
Strategy
Unrandarts can be imprinted, which can result in unique synergies - the lochaber axe is one of the best weapons you can give to your Paragon. Some weapons that are very risky to wield yourself, such as Obsidian axe with its self-mesmerizing, the Dark maul being slow even at maximum skill, or the Wrath of Trog being antimagic and risking berserk on each swing, are some of the strongest choices to give to your Paragon. Note that the Paragon is non-living, so it cannot go berserk.
The Sceptre of Torment and the Singing Sword are not recommended - both of their effects will hurt the player when used by the Paragon.
Even without unrandarts, some randart brands still work well: distortion can be wielded without consequence by your Platinum Paragon, antimagic will get you the spellcaster countering without the MP penalty, and heavy on a slow weapon will still be swung by your Paragon at the same speed as you attack with your own weapons. Artefact weapons with intrinsic resistances can be useful in certain branches, particularly those that grant rCorr or flight.
Platinum Paragons always swing at 1.0 base delay (modified to 0.7 for weapons of speed and 1.5 for heavy weapons) and cannot use shields, so it is generally advisable to give it the strongest two-hander you can find.
