Version 0.31: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
You feel a lump in the pit of your stomach.

Buckshank bold and Elfinstone,
And more than I can mention here,
They caused to be built so stout a ship,
And unto Iceland they would steer.

They launched the ship upon the main,
Which bellowed like a wrathful bear;
Down to the bottom the vessel sank,
A laidly Trold has dragged it there.”
-George Borrow, _Lavengro: The Scholar, the Gypsy, the Priest_. 1851.

Trolls are huge, lumbering humanoids found throughout the Dungeon, tearing apart adventurers with their savage claws. Although there are several varieties with unique features, they all boast powerful melee prowess and frustratingly rapid regeneration. Killing them may produce troll leather armour of varying shades, though all colours work identically.

Troll Types

T Troll - A brute with long claws, slavering fangs, and unnatural regeneration.

T Deep troll - Cave-dwellers that hunt in packs and are often led by their more magically-inclined brethren.

T Deep troll earth mage - These geomancers use magic to carve tunnels through the Dungeon and their claws to carve through you.

T Deep troll shaman - The leaders of deep troll packs, they enhance their allies' speed and strength.

T Iron troll - The largest, slowest, most powerful member of the troll family. Resists fire and cold.

Unique Trolls

T Pargi - A lithe troll who hides from his more dangerous cousins up in the higher floors of the Dungeon or in the Sewers.

T Snorg - An obese troll who goes berserk on a whim.

T Moon troll - Found guarding Lehudib's Moon Base, the bearer of the moon troll leather armour is as tough as an iron troll but is faster and capable of firing bolts of acid.

T Parghit - A ferocious gold dragon scales-wearing troll who hits harder and regenerates faster than nearly anything else.

Retired Trolls

T Rock troll - Stony-skinned trolls that were tougher but slower than their fleshy brethren.
