Mutually exclusive

Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

When two or more objects are mutually exclusive, they cannot appear in the same game. Usually, in Crawl, they fulfill a similar yet non-identical role in the game.

Branches

Only one branch from each set will appear in a game:

• Poison Lair Branch: The Spider's Nest, The Snake Pit
• Water Lair Branch: The Shoals, The Swamp

Because each of these branches houses a rune and gem, their runes/gems will also be exclusive from each other.

Items

Only one item from each set will appear in a game:

Wands

• AOE Wand: Wand of iceblast, wand of roots, and wand of warping will appear per game.
• Bolt Wand: Wand of acid, wand of light, and wand of quicksilver will appear per game.
• Hex Wand:Wand of paralysis and wand of charming will appear per game.

XP Evocables

• Elemental AOE set: Tin of tremorstones, condenser vane
• Summoning set: Box of beasts, sack of spiders
• Control set: Phial of floods, gell's gravitambourine

Monsters

• Orb of appropriateness: * Orb of fire, * Orb of winter, * Orb of entropy

Only one monster from this set will appear in Zot. Which type that'll appear can be seen through the statues in the Temple and just outside of Zot (ctrl-O if these statues have already been found). All three may appear in Ziggurat levels in any game.
