Autumn katana: Difference between revisions

Revision as of 05:15, 14 June 2023

Version 0.30: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

An exquisitely crafted sword. Its blade is so sharp that it can cut through space itself.

the +8 autumn katana

+8 katana (modified long sword: 14 base damage, +3 base accuracy, 12 base delay)
20% chance: may cast Manifold Assault on hit.
(The target of your melee attack cannot be hit by the Manifold Assault)

Desirability

The autumn katana^[1] is a nice weapon, with better base stats than a demon blade. However, the extra attacks from Manifold Assault only proc when there's more than 1 target on the screen. Therefore, a +9 branded demon blade will outperform against single targets. That being said, the autumn katana shines against multiple targets, as it can hit up to 4 extra targets at once.

The spell Manifold Assault still works with this weapon ("Space folds impossibly around your blade!"), allowing you to sometimes get one layer of recursion.

History

Prior to 0.28, the autumn katana had the vorpal brand and clarity instead of the ability to cast Manifold Assault. It also gained 1 base damage, but lost riposte. Note that the game falsely states it has the vorpal brand in 0.28 and 0.29.
The autumn katana was added in 0.10.

-The '''autumn katana'''<ref>{{source ref|0.29.0|art-data.txt|1205}}</ref> is a very nice weapon if you can find it. With better base stats than a [[demon blade]], it has excellent speed, decent damage output, and the chance to target multiple, distant foes at once. The extra attacks roughly equate to [[vorpal]] when 2 monsters are on screen. It becomes stronger as more monsters are available, up to 5 monsters.
