A cloth hat.

Hats are a form of head armour. Unlike helmets, they provide no base AC, but can be used by large- or little-sized characters, as well as those with beaks and all but the largest of horns and antennae. They can be maximally enchanted to +2.

History

Prior to 0.27, hats couldn't have Stealth ego.
Prior to 0.20, hats could have Spirit shield ego.
Prior to 0.19, you could find hats with cold and fire resistance egos in ice caves and volcanoes respectively.
Hats were added in 0.14, consolidating wizard hats and caps.
