An unrand (or unrandart) is short for "unrandom artefact," an artefact with set appearance and properties.

An unrand (or unrandart) is short for "unrandom artefact," which is an artefact with a set appearance and properties (unlike a randart).  (There's no such thing as a "List of Randarts" because they're, well, random.) An unrandart that is specialized to have unique, hardcoded properties is sometimes referred to as a fixedart, although this distinction has become blurred with time.
Useful Info
Unrands always have the same properties between games, as opposed to randarts ("random artefacts", which have randomly generated properties). Unrands may have special mechanics not found anywhere else in the game, such as Frostbite's ability to create freezing clouds. Unrands with unique properties have historically been called fixedarts, though the distinction has become increasingly blurred with time.

<!--NOTE: Before adding something to this list, go into wizard mode and use the command "create all unrandart items." If the item you want to add is not generated by that command, then it's just a randart so don't add it.-->
Unrands cannot be modified by scrolls, even for Mountain Dwarves. Chaotic unrands may generate in Xom's bazaars, with the chaos brand on top of any existing properties; this is the only way to obtain a 'modified' unrand.

Rings
Only one instance of any particular unrand may generate per game.
Ring of the Mage {Wiz MR Int+3}
*If you don't pick up an unrand that generates in a temporary portal level, or accidentally destroy the unrand by dumping it into lava, it is lost forever.
*Any unrand in the possession of a monster you banish to the Abyss can be found in the Abyss, though this may take a very, very long time.
*If an acquirement (either from a scroll or an Okawaru gift) offers an unrand and you pick something else, it can generate elsewhere.

Ring of Robustness {AC+8}
Although it is extremely likely to find at least one unrand over the course of any given game, there is no guarantee that any particular unrand will generate, or that the unrands that do generate will be of any use to you.

Ring of Shaolin {EV+8}
Certain unrands are more likely to spawn in the early game, where they are most useful: Delatra's gloves, woodcutter's axe, Throatcutter, Hermit's pendant, Devastator, ratskin cloak, Kryia's mail coat, Lear's hauberk, trident of the Octopus King, robe of Augmentation, staff of the Meek, amulet of Elemental Vulnerability, robe of Misfortune, Force Lance, and toga "Victory".

Has 1d3 Random Effects

Found by killing the Enchantress, it has random properties, usually positive.  Specifically, it will almost never have any of +Rage, *RAGE, -CAST, *TELE, or MUT(+).  It also has a small (1/20 chance of each) chance to have clarity, +(1 to 11) MP, or +(-10 to 11) HP.  It will always be positively enchanted, with somewhere between +2 and +7 enchantment.  Base stats are identical to mottled dragon armour: 6 AC, -1 EV, wearable by all races that can wear armour.  It even provides the same sticky flame resistance.

Very nice if you can wear it, although with enough scrolls of enchant armour you can get slightly more AC out of a normal GDA.  However, said scrolls would usually be better spent enchanting (and possibly repairing) secondary pieces of armour, such as cloaks of preservation or boots of running.  If you're a heavy armour user and you find this, use it.

Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

An unrand (or unrandart) is short for "unrandom artefact," an artefact with set appearance and properties.

Unrands cannot be modified by scrolls, even for Mountain Dwarves. Chaotic unrands may generate in Xom's bazaars, with the chaos brand on top of any existing properties; this is the only way to obtain a 'modified' unrand.

Only one instance of any particular unrand may generate per game.

 • If you don't pick up an unrand that generates in a temporary portal level, or accidentally destroy the unrand by dumping it into lava, it is lost forever.
 • Any unrand in the possession of a monster you banish to the Abyss can be found in the Abyss, though this may take a very, very long time.
 • If an acquirement (either from a scroll or an Okawaru gift) offers an unrand and you pick something else, it can generate elsewhere.

Although it is extremely likely to find at least one unrand over the course of any given game, there is no guarantee that any particular unrand will generate, or that the unrands that do generate will be of any use to you.

Certain unrands are more likely to spawn in the early game, where they are most useful:[1] Delatra's gloves, woodcutter's axe, Throatcutter, Hermit's pendant, Devastator, ratskin cloak, Kryia's mail coat, Lear's hauberk, trident of the Octopus King, robe of Augmentation, staff of the Meek, amulet of Elemental Vulnerability, robe of Misfortune, Force Lance, and toga "Victory".
