The mask of the dragon provides an interesting trade-off. The willpower boost is nice, and see invisible convenient, though the most unique aspect is the +3 slaying. This comes at the cost of any AC from the helmet slot.
The Dragonpray ability can't be relied upon for regular summons.

For melee and ranged fighters, it's usually worthwhile. Low AC characters may prefer a +2 helmet, while you might find a better artefact hat/helmet out there. For casters, the willpower alone can make it worth using (if you don't have another hat of willpower).
The mask covers your face but not your head, so characters with horns will still be able to use their auxiliary attack, making it a great fit for Minotaurs.

Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
The mask of the High Priest of ancient Erebora. In ancient times, the gods of the Ereborans ceased to answer their prayers, and in desperation, the people turned to the forbidden worship of dragons. Now, of their works, only this mask remains.

the +2 mask of the Dragon

+2 hat
Dragonpray : It occasionally summons a dragon when using Invocations with hostile monsters in sight. Chance is 10% + twice the piety cost of the ability used. The type of a summonned dragon is random and depends on your XP level.
See invisible

Desirability

The Dragonpray ability can't be relied upon for regular summons.

The mask covers your face but not your head, so characters with horns will still be able to use their auxiliary attack, making it a great fit for Minotaurs.

History

 • Prior to 0.34 the Mask of the Dragon was a +0 mask that also provided Will+ and Slay+3. It also did not have the Dragonpray ability. [1]
