Ice Thorns is a level 1 Earth/Ice spell that creates a temporary ring of ice thorns surrounding a targeted monster, which do a small amount of cold damage to any hostile creature that steps on them. Flying creatures ignore ice thorns, and the caster cannot be harmed by them. Upon being stepped on by any non-flying monster or player, they are destroyed and leave behind harmless clouds of faint frost.

Mystics start with this spell memorized.

Strategy
For a Mystic, this spell synergizes well with the Vision talisman, as one can frequently cast it at range to create glimmer clouds for small amount of MP. Flying monsters in the early game are mostly limited to bats, which are not especially dangerous (and can likewise be easily dealt with by glimmer clouds).
