Kobold fleshcrafter

From Ashenzari's Archive
Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
A skull-masked kobold, its body mutated by forbidden magics. It conducts vile experiments in the service of demonic powers, formulating ever more terrible monstrosities as vessels for devilish minds.

“The Parts Septentrionall are with these Sp’ryts Much haunted.. About the places where they dig for Oare. The Greekes and Germans call them Cobali.”
-Thomas Heywood, _The Hierarchy of the Blessed Angels_, Book IX, l. 568. 1635.

Useful Info

Primarily found in Depths. Casts Bolt of Flesh as irresistible bolts that leaves behind a Pile of Flesh, and Awaken Flesh to make chaos explosions from piles of flesh while turning them into large abominations. Comes in bands with other fleshcrafters and Ugly things or Very ugly things.

These kobold fleshcrafters are a little lower than individual hell knights in threat level, but with less notable resists or haste. They've experimented a little on themselves to stand out more dramatically by Depths depth, which includes rPois, 1 HP/turn regeneration, and a poisonous tentacle Aux slap. Alongside passable damage with venom or draining short blades and long blades, they stand out mostly with their spells:

Spells

Tile Name Damage Range Flags
Bolt of Flesh 3d18 5 Wizard flag
Awaken Flesh 3d14 LOS Wizard flag

Tips & Tricks

These spellcasters bring a new type of threat to the Depths with their penetrating bolt spell, which bypasses resists and helps them field an army of Large abominations with all 3 of their possible permanent buffs (haste, might and regeneration). These abominations are spawned from the piles of flesh using a smite-targeted AOE chaos spell, so distance yourself from the piles right away.

They usually come in packs, and need to be treated with the same respect you give Orc priests in the early dungeon - focus and eliminate.
