Demonspawn soul scholar

From Ashenzari's Archive
(Redirected from Black sun)
Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

For a list of all demonspawn, see list of demonspawn.

A half-mortal, half-demonic creature, covered in icy blue scales. Its devotion to the deities of death grants it great insight into the vulnerabilities and applications of mortal souls.

“Xinchub: At least you're conceding that I've got a soul.
Petey: Yes, but it is battered, twisted, and drenched in the blood of the
innocent.
Xinchub: Mmm... yeah.
Petey: When you stop being pleased by that we'll know you're making
progress.”
-Howard Tayler, _Schlock Mercenary_. February 8, 2008.

History

  • Prior to 0.32, soul scholars were known as demonspawn black suns. They had Black Mark in place of Sign of Ruin, which buffed individual monsters instead of debuffing the player.
  • Prior to 0.28, demonspawns with the black sun class could have any base (monstrous, gelid, infernal, or torturous), instead of all of them being gelid. Additionally, gelid demonspawn had an icemail mechanic, which reduced their AC upon taking fire damage.
  • Prior to 0.19, they could cast Malign Offering.
  • Black suns were added in 0.14.
